Thai customs seize Chinese goods fraudulently labeled as “Made in Thailand” at Laem Chabang port

Thai Customs and the Department of Foreign Trade announced on 20 July 2026 that they had seized two large shipments at Laem Chabang port that were falsely marked as “Made in Thailand.” The confiscated items included about 5.37 million cigarettes of the TWOMOON brand and roughly 202 000 sets of semi‑finished utility tools, both originally imported from China.

Authorities said the false labeling was intended to exploit free‑zone and industrial‑estate trade privileges, causing an estimated economic loss of around 100 million baht (roughly 17 million baht from the cigarettes and 82.7 million baht from the tools). The Customs Director‑General Panthong Loykulnanth warned that “such practices distort international trade systems and damage the reputation of Thai exports.” Legal action is being pursued under the Customs Act, the Act on Prohibition of Goods with False Origin, and the Export‑Import Act.

The operation highlights Thailand’s tightened enforcement against origin fraud and the suspension of trade benefits for violators.
