Thai diplomats visit Amalfi Coast terraced lemon groves
A delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Italy, accompanied by the diplomatic corps, visited the terraced agricultural landscapes of the Amalfi Coast. The visit focused on the lemon groves recognized under the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) program.
During the visit, the delegation met with the Mayor of Amalfi, Daniele Milano, and local administration to discuss the protection and enhancement of terraced farming. The group also visited the Salvatore Aceto farm, a lead entity in the Med Italy BIO project, to observe traditional cultivation techniques and the maintenance required for this unique landscape.
The initiative, promoted by Med Italy BIO and Confagricoltura Campania, served as an international forum to discuss the value of traditional agricultural systems. Discussions highlighted critical challenges facing the region, including the high costs and complexity of terrace maintenance, the economic sustainability of farms, and the need for generational renewal to ensure continued cultivation.
