Southern Thailand development projects proposed at Cabinet Mobile Meeting

The Thai Cabinet is holding a mobile meeting in Songkhla to address development in the five southern border provinces, including Songkhla, Satun, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Local authorities and the private sector have proposed 96 strategic projects totaling over 13 billion baht. These proposals focus on infrastructure, such as road improvements, dam construction, and pier repairs, with significant portions of the budget earmarked for Pattani and Yala.

To support local industry, the Ministry of Industry has proposed a five-year extension of factory fee exemptions for businesses in Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and four districts in Songkhla. This measure aims to reduce costs for approximately 683 factories and encourage investment in the region.

Social welfare and cultural issues are also on the agenda. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is working to address poverty and the needs of vulnerable groups affected by regional instability. Additionally, the government has announced the removal of the Red-whiskered Bulbul from the protected wildlife list, a move intended to support local cultural traditions and create new economic opportunities for breeders in the southern provinces.
