Thai lawmaker urges probe into Israeli citizenship and Chabad centers

Chaiyachana Detdecho, a Democrat Party list MP, has called on the Ministry of Interior to investigate the activities of Jewish communities and the establishment of Chabad centers in Bangkok and other tourist areas.

Concerns were raised regarding Israeli nationals applying for Thai citizenship and the legality of religious facilities operating as closed spaces that prohibit outsiders from entering. Detdecho urged authorities to verify the legality of building permits, land use, and tax compliance. He also requested an investigation into the origins of funding used for these establishments to ensure they are not linked to illicit capital or ‘grey money.’

Additionally, the lawmaker noted reports of a Jewish cemetery in Chachoengsao province and requested a thorough review to ensure transparency and adherence to Thai law regarding the expansion of these community activities across the country.
