Thai Muay Thai coach arrested in Taiwan for heroin smuggling
A 35-year-old Thai Muay Thai coach was arrested at Kaohsiung Siaogang Airport on April 6 for allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin into Taiwan by swallowing capsules.
Authorities intercepted the woman following intelligence regarding an international drug trafficking syndicate. An X-ray examination revealed 72 oval-shaped objects inside her abdomen. The capsules, which were wrapped in layers of condoms and heat-shrink film to prevent leakage, contained approximately 289.1 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of NT$3.6 million.
Due to the suspect's background as a combat sports instructor, security personnel maintained 24-hour surveillance during her 10-day hospital stay to prevent potential resistance. The capsules were eventually recovered through natural excretion. The case has been referred for prosecution under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
