Thai Nguyen police detain man for impersonating officers

Thai Nguyen Provincial Police have detained Nguyen Nhu Y, born in 2000, for impersonating mobile police officers to extort money from commuters. Y reportedly purchased police uniforms, name tags, batons, flashlights, and whistles online to facilitate the deception.

On the night of September 24, Y used the disguise to intercept a motorcyclist in a secluded area of Vo Tranh commune. During the encounter, the motorcyclist attempted to avoid Y by swerving into oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a passenger bus. The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and subsequently died at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Y surrendered to authorities on the morning of September 25 after discarding the fraudulent equipment.
