Thai Nguyen prosecutors charge two relatives with raping disabled woman
The Provincial Police in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, have issued a prosecution request against Bê Văn Bằng (born 1983) and Bê Đình Liêm (born 1966) for the rape of a woman with an intellectual disability. The victim, a 1996‑born resident of Cường Lợi commune who receives monthly social assistance, was alone at home when the two male relatives entered her house around 14:00 on 23 March 2026 after drinking alcohol and forced sexual intercourse.
Investigators highlighted the close familial relationship – Bê Văn Bằng is the uncle and Bê Đình Liêm the nephew of the victim – and stressed the severe violation of personal dignity and the moral decay it reflects. The police also urged families of persons with limited cognitive abilities to provide constant supervision and vigilance to prevent similar exploitation.
