Kla Tham Party removed from Thai opposition whip after budget vote

The People's Party has removed the Kla Tham Party from the opposition whip following a disagreement over the 2027 fiscal year budget. Parit Wacharasindhu, the opposition whip chairman, stated the decision was made because Kla Tham MPs voted in favor of the government's budget, directly contradicting the opposition's collective resolution to oppose or abstain.

Nattaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, clarified that the move was intended to ensure the opposition mechanism functions effectively for those committed to government oversight. He noted that Kla Tham's stance regarding upcoming no-confidence motions remained unclear, making continued cooperation difficult. The new opposition whip will now consist of five parties: the People's Party, Democrat Party, Thai Sang Thai Party, Seripai Ruam Thai Party, and Thai Ruam Phalang Party.

While Kla Tham members expressed dissatisfaction, claiming they were not properly consulted, the People's Party maintains they followed proper coordination protocols. Meanwhile, Bhumjaithai Party leaders have declined to comment on rumors that Kla Tham's 58 MPs might join the government coalition, stating that any cabinet adjustments remain the sole prerogative of the Prime Minister.
