Thai police arrest Chinese suspect in $75M crypto laundering probe

Thai immigration police arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national, identified as Wu Chaoshuai, in Bangkok’s Saphan Sung district on October 16, 2026. The suspect is wanted by Chinese authorities for alleged involvement in a transnational crime network linked to loan-sharking and money laundering.

Investigators allege that Wu helped manage more than 133 bank accounts used as mule accounts for criminal syndicates. These accounts were reportedly used to facilitate the exchange of digital currencies and foreign currencies, with a total transaction volume estimated at over 500 million yuan (approximately $70–75 million). Authorities claim Wu also provided logistical support, such as arranging visas for individuals involved in these criminal networks.

While Wu faces charges in Thailand for overstaying his visa, police intend to deport him to China to face outstanding warrants. His arrest is part of a broader crackdown by Thai authorities in October 2026 targeting Chinese-linked transnational crime groups involved in online scams and illegal property holdings.
