Thai police dismantle fraud group in Bangkok raid

Thai police have dismantled a call center-based fraud group operating out of a luxury residence in Bangkok. The Cyber Crime Investigation Division (CCID) arrested three suspects—a 37-year-old Chinese man and two Myanmar nationals—following a raid on October 6. The investigation was triggered by a report from a 19-year-old student who was defrauded of over 660,000 baht by individuals posing as mobile phone employees and police officers.

Authorities estimate the total damages from this group exceed 200 million baht. During the raid, police seized over 100 million baht in assets, including luxury watches from brands such as Richard Mille, Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Audemars Piguet, along with cash, mobile devices, and documents. The group reportedly laundered funds by purchasing gold or transferring money to various individuals.

In a related development, the Japanese National Police Agency met with Thai immigration police to discuss a separate crackdown on a fraud group in Bangkok that targeted Japanese citizens. During that operation, 14 individuals were detained, and lists containing information on approximately 600 Japanese nationals were seized. Japanese authorities are currently working with Thai officials to analyze seized materials and identify victims.
