Thai PM Anutin Charnvirakul visits Indonesia, sets $20 bn trade goal
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Jakarta on 3 August 2026 and stayed until 4 August, marking the first official Thai prime‑ministerial visit to Indonesia in 15 years. He was received by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace at 4:30 p.m. local time. During the meeting the leaders launched the Indonesia‑Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026‑2030, covering security, economic development and socio‑cultural cooperation. Both sides set a target of US$20 billion in bilateral trade by 2030 and agreed to create a Joint Trade Commission, the first bilateral trade mechanism between the two countries. The roadmap also calls for deeper collaboration on food security, energy, digital economy and halal value chains. In addition, Thailand offered to supply 36 armored amphibious (ATAV) vehicles to the Indonesian armed forces and discussed expanding defence cooperation. The visit included a Thailand‑Indonesia business forum and a speech by the Thai prime minister at the ASEAN Secretariat. Jakarta prepared traffic‑management plans on ten major roads for the state visit.
