Thai security officials clarify remarks on Southern Thailand unrest

Spokespersons for the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) and the Royal Thai Army have clarified recent statements regarding unrest in Southern Thailand. Addressing the arson of a Sub-district Administrative Organization (SAO) office, officials emphasized that the Fourth Army Region Commander’s comments regarding potential political involvement were merely observations and hypotheses rather than definitive conclusions.

Authorities stated that a formal investigation is ongoing and must rely on forensic evidence and thorough investigation to establish facts. They stressed the importance of maintaining neutrality and accuracy to avoid misidentifying suspects, which could alienate local populations.

Regarding separate incidents involving a helicopter and a teenager, officials noted that forensic evidence is still being processed. The military will continue to support ISOC Region 4 in security planning, which involves coordinated efforts between military, police, and administrative sectors to respond to evolving local security patterns.
