Thai Union partners with Zunibal for AI-driven tuna monitoring

Thai Union has selected Zunibal to modernize the electronic monitoring (EM) systems used by its suppliers' tuna longliners operating in the Indian Ocean. The partnership aims to enhance traceability, responsible sourcing, and compliance with regional and international fisheries regulations.

The upgraded service will utilize a cloud-based platform incorporating artificial intelligence to assist in video reviews and data management. Zunibal will provide an end-to-end solution, including equipment installation, technical support, and specialized reporting. This initiative is part of Thai Union’s SeaChange® global sustainability strategy.

The monitoring system was developed in accordance with standards established by Thai Union and The Nature Conservancy, and will follow guidelines from the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation. Thai Union reported that currently, over 99.9% of its tuna is responsibly sourced, with 100% traceable to the specific vessel of capture.
