Thai Vietjet flight diverted to Ho Chi Minh City amid Phu Quoc storm

On 30 July, Thai Vietjet Air flight VZ982, a Boeing 737‑MAX 8 operating from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to Phu Quoc International Airport, was diverted to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. The diversion occurred as Phu Quoc experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and visibility reduced to about 4 km. Flight tracking data shows the aircraft left Bangkok at 15:21 local time, was redirected to Tan Son Nhat, landed there, and later resumed the Phu Quoc leg, departing Ho Chi Minh City around 23:48 and arriving at Phu Quoc shortly after midnight on 31 July. No official explanation for the diversion was released, but the timing coincided with adverse weather conditions at the destination airport.
