Thailand advances Missing Link railway linking Chumphon to Ranong port
Thai government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said the Missing Link project will construct a railway line between Chumphon and Ranong port, completing a logistics corridor that links the Andaman Sea to the China‑Singapore rail route. The plan is intended to boost the country's logistics capacity, reduce transport time and costs for southern exporters, and position Thailand as an ASEAN trade hub.
The project will also upgrade Ranong port, dredge waterways, improve road connections and integrate with the Thailand‑Laos‑China and Malaysia‑Singapore rail corridors. It is aligned with Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Plan and aims to open trade with BIMSTEC countries—Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka—plus further markets in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Design work is complete, an environmental impact assessment is being finalised, and construction could take about three years after cabinet approval. The government stresses that the investment is based on cost‑benefit analysis and will benefit the broader southern region, including tourism, agriculture and border economies.
