Thailand advances OECD education membership and AI skills framework

Thailand's Minister of Education, Prasert Jantararuangtong, met with OECD Deputy Secretary-General Frantisek Ruzicka to discuss the country's progress toward joining the OECD in the field of education. A technical review of the Thai education system has been completed and is scheduled for official submission in September, ahead of expert evaluations later this year.

Key initiatives discussed include the ‘Thailand Zero Dropout’ program, which aims to reintegrate vulnerable, poor, and migrant children into the classroom. This model is intended to serve as a regional template. Additionally, the Ministry plans to announce an ‘AI Skill Framework’ in October, developed with OECD guidance, to ensure students use artificial intelligence ethically and analytically.

Looking ahead, Thailand and UNESCO will co-host the 2027 Global Education Meeting (GEM) in March. The Ministry also plans to co-host the presentation of the PISA 2025 results and the Education at a Glance 2026 report with the OECD in November. Minister Prasert has been invited to present Thailand's educational vision at a high-level meeting in New York alongside the UN General Assembly in late September.
