Thailand aims for free trade agreement with EU
Thailandian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has stated that negotiations for a free trade agreement between Thailand and the European Union could be concluded by the end of 2026, with a goal of signing the deal next year.
During a diplomatic mission in Rome, Phuangketkeow highlighted Europe as a vital partner for diversifying trade amid global protectionism and competition between major powers. He noted that Thailand, as the second-largest economy in ASEAN, serves as a central gateway to Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
The Minister also discussed strengthening bilateral relations with Italy, identifying potential cooperation in sectors such as artificial intelligence and railway transport. Additionally, he addressed regional concerns, including maritime security impacts from the Middle East crisis and the ongoing tensions in Southeast Asia regarding Myanmar.
