Thailand and Czech Republic adopt new tourism strategies focused on visitor spending and longer stays

Thailand announced a shift in its tourism policy, moving away from tracking the sheer number of arrivals toward measuring the amount tourists spend. The new approach aims to attract higher‑spending visitors and enhance the economic contribution of tourism.

In the Czech Republic, the Pardubicko region approved a 2027‑2033 tourism strategy that seeks to turn the area into a destination for longer stays. Officials highlighted the need to link historic sites, cultural events, natural attractions and a UNESCO heritage site, and to develop congress, cultural and experiential tourism. The region welcomed 138,885 visitors last year, about a quarter of the national total, and hopes the plan will encourage tourists to spend more time and money in the area.
