Thailand approves 1.2 billion baht for Student Loan Fund liquidity
The Thai government has approved an emergency budget allocation of approximately 1.2 billion baht to bolster the liquidity of the Student Loan Fund (SLF). This measure aims to ensure continuous support for tuition fees, related educational expenses, and living costs for students.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana stated that the Ministry of Finance proposed this allocation from the 2026 fiscal year's central budget to address potential cash flow risks. Without this intervention, approximately 141,838 borrowers might have faced insufficient funding.
For the 2026 academic year, the SLF estimated a total lending framework of approximately 47.7 billion baht for 775,629 new and existing borrowers. As of August 2026, the fund had already disbursed approximately 35 billion baht to 577,523 borrowers.
