Thailand BOI approves $1.99 bn of AI, electronics and Nestlé coffee plant investments
The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) cleared nine major foreign‑direct investment projects worth a combined USD 1.99 billion. The approvals cover artificial intelligence infrastructure, advanced electronics manufacturing, aviation, clean‑energy generation and food production.
Key investors include Japan’s Datasection (USD 235.2 m) for high‑performance GPU server facilities, South Korea’s Doosan Electro‑Materials (USD 180.2 m) and Taiwan’s Union Technology (USD 189.2 m) for copper‑clad laminate and prepreg production, and Fulltech Fibre Glass (USD 99.4 m) for specialised glass‑fibre fabric for PCBs. Swiss‑based Nestlé (Thai) will invest USD 688.7 m to build a smart coffee factory and distribution centre in Samut Prakan, with an annual capacity of 170,000 tonnes and more than 520 engineering jobs. The plant will use AI, robotics and locally sourced beans, sugar and milk. Thai Airways International secured USD 430.2 m to lease eight passenger aircraft, while Lomrak Green Energy will invest USD 168.7 m in two wind farms supplying 120 MW to the grid.
BOI Secretary‑General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said the projects “signal strong global confidence in our industrial capacity” and will “strengthen the entire coffee value chain.” The BOI also created a Subcommittee on Energy Management for Data‑Center Investment to oversee resource use and green‑energy targets. The Nestlé facility is slated to start operations in Q4 2028.
