Thailand approves 9-strain HPV vaccine and Botulinum Antitoxin registration

Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the registration of a 9-strain HPV vaccine and a bivalent Botulinum Antitoxin. These approvals are part of a strategic effort by the National Vaccine Institute (NVI) to enhance domestic production of vaccines and biologics, aiming to establish Thailand as a regional vaccine security hub for ASEAN.

The 9-strain HPV vaccine project involves a technology transfer partnership between the NVI and INNOVAX. Since 2023, the collaboration has provided 800,000 doses of a 2-strain HPV vaccine annually, helping to cover approximately 1.2 million students over three academic years.

Additionally, the development of the bivalent Botulinum Antitoxin, conducted in collaboration with the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute of the Thai Red Cross Society, marks the first time such a serum has been produced domestically in Thailand and the ASEAN region. This advancement is intended to reduce reliance on imports and prepare the country to serve as a regional reserve center for the antitoxin during emergencies.
