Thailand Cabinet approves four capital market law amendments
The Thai Cabinet has approved four legislative amendments aimed at modernizing the nation's capital markets and adapting to the growing digital economy. Proposed by the Ministry of Finance, the amendments cover the Securities and Exchange Act, the Derivatives Act, the Capital Market Transactions Trust Act, and an emergency decree regarding digital asset businesses.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Eckanit stated that the reforms seek to expand the oversight and enforcement powers of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding new financial products, such as cryptocurrencies and digital tokens. The measures are intended to enable faster responses to fraudulent activities, strengthen investor protection mechanisms, and align Thailand with international standards to attract foreign investment.
The legislative changes also aim to provide legal frameworks for new fundraising methods, including asset securitization through trusts and crowdfunding. Following the Cabinet's approval, the bills will proceed to the National Assembly for deliberation.
