Thailand clarifies foreign worker Pink Card and retirement visa requirements
The Thai Pink Card is a non‑Thai identification card issued by the Department of Provincial Administration, allowing registered foreign residents – including migrant labour, displaced persons and document holders – to obtain a work permit tied to a specific employer. Holders must report job changes, meet occupation limits and undergo health screenings as required by the Ministry of Labour.
For retirees, the standard Non‑Immigrant O retirement visa, promoted by Siam Legal International, requires applicants to be at least 50 years old and to hold either 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account or prove 65,000 baht monthly passive income. Recent changes mean many embassies no longer issue income‑verification letters, so the bank‑deposit route is increasingly used. Visa holders must keep funds in the account for three months before and after each annual renewal and obtain a re‑entry permit before leaving Thailand.
