Thailand Election Commission denies Senate collusion rumors

The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has denied rumors that it has pre-determined to prosecute only 10 individuals in the Senate election collusion case. Narong Rakroi, an ECT commissioner, stated that the seven commissioners will hold a meeting on September 14 to cast individual votes on whether to refer specific cases to the court.

The commission noted that the delay in reaching a decision was necessary to gather additional information and ensure thorough reasoning. Each commissioner will exercise their individual discretion based on the evidence in the case files. Following the individual votes, the ECT Secretariat will compile the results into a formal central ruling.

Additionally, the ECT is investigating a potential breach of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) regarding the leak of case documents to opposition parties and the iLaw group. A decision on how to proceed legally regarding this leak is expected this coming Monday. The commission also addressed telephone records released by the opposition, stating they will consider any evidence present in the official case files, regardless of when the events occurred.
