Thailand faces longevity risk as aging population grows

Thailand is rapidly transitioning into a complete aging society, with the population aged 60 and over currently accounting for 22% of the total. This figure is projected to rise to 36% by 2050. As life expectancy increases due to medical advancements, financial experts are highlighting the growing threat of “longevity risk”—the danger of individuals outliving their retirement savings.

In response to these demographic shifts and the emerging “longevity economy,” Siam Commercial Bank and FWD Life Insurance have launched “Infinity Legacy.” This insurance product is designed to facilitate intergenerational wealth transfer, offering coverage up to the age of 120. Notably, the plan accepts applicants aged between 60 and 90, a range previously underserved in the market. The product aims to assist high-net-worth individuals with legacy planning and tax management by providing flexible premium payment options, such as single payments or two-year terms.
