Thailand Forms Data Center Committee to Regulate Energy and Environment

The Thai cabinet approved a draft ordinance establishing a Data Center Policy Committee to oversee the development of data‑center facilities. The committee will be chaired by a deputy prime minister and include the ministers of Digital Economy and Society, Interior and Energy, senior officials from finance, agriculture, natural resources, water and energy agencies, and up to three appointed experts.

Its mandate is to propose policies, standards and guidelines for data‑center operations, assess and monitor energy, water and environmental impacts, promote clean energy use, ensure fair resource pricing, support carbon‑neutral goals and safeguard national data security. The move aims to attract foreign investment, boost the digital economy and prevent adverse effects on Thailand’s energy security and environment.
