Thailand government announces various public service measures
The Thai government has announced several initiatives to reduce living costs and improve public services. The Ministry of Transport is considering extending the daily flat-rate commuter pass for the Red Line and Purple Line electric train services until December 31, 2027. Data shows a significant increase in passengers and revenue following the implementation of EMV contactless payment systems on these lines.
To facilitate travel during the Chulalongkorn Day holiday on October 23, 2026, the Expressway Authority of Thailand will waive tolls at 63 checkpoints across three expressway routes: Chaloem Maha Nakhon, Si Rat, and Udon Ratthaya.
Additionally, the Department of Provincial Administration is seeking public feedback on proposed amendments to gambling regulations. The changes aim to modernize laws by allowing youth to participate in billiards and snooker training and aligning boxing competition standards with the Sports Authority of Thailand.
