Thailand government assures Village Health Volunteers regarding compensation

The Thai government has addressed concerns regarding the compensation and performance certification of Village Health Volunteers (VHV) following the transfer of public health missions to local administrative organizations.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Lakmisaengchan clarified that the budget for VHV compensation remains under the management of the Ministry of Public Health, specifically through the Department of Health Service Support. This follows a 2021 Cabinet resolution to ensure standardized, transparent, and legal disbursement of funds nationwide.

The government emphasized that VHV work processes will continue in coordination with health service facilities, even as primary care hospitals are transferred to Provincial Administrative Organizations. The certification process involves a multi-level verification system, moving from village and sub-district VHV chairpersons through district and provincial health offices to the Department of Health Service Support.
