Thailand hospital accident results in partial finger amputation of one-year-old
A one-year-old child suffered a partial amputation of his right index finger during the discharge process at Loengnoktha Crown Prince Hospital in Yasothon, Thailand. The incident occurred on September 11 while a nursing assistant was using scissors to remove the gauze securing an intravenous line.
The accident caused severe bleeding, prompting medical staff to preserve the amputated part under special conditions for transfer. The child was moved to Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital, where he underwent two surgical procedures to attempt reconstruction. It remains uncertain if full functionality of the finger will be recovered.
The hospital has issued an apology, suspended the staff member involved, and launched an internal investigation to review medical protocols. The child's mother, Wiphaphon Namkhan, shared the details on social media, and the family has reportedly filed a complaint with the Thai police.
