Thailand implements flood measures for Ayutthaya industrial estates

Thailand's Ministry of Industry and the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) have implemented eight flood prevention measures across three major industrial estates in Ayutthaya province: Narua Luang, Bang Pa-in, and Hi-Tech (Ban Wa). The initiative aims to ensure operational stability and bolster investor confidence amid potential flood risks.

As of late August 2026, water levels at these sites are reported to be at Level 1 (normal/green), with external water levels remaining at safe distances from embankments. The estates are equipped with diesel backup power systems capable of supporting continuous water pumping for at least eight hours. Specific infrastructure includes extensive earthen embankments, multiple pumping stations, and retention ponds designed to manage significant water volumes.

The management strategy follows a three-pronged approach: “catch the fall” by utilizing seven retention fields to hold up to 1,210 million cubic meters of water, “protect the exit” to safeguard over 2,300 factories, and “drain the bottom” by diverting water into the Bang Bal and Bang Sai canals at a rate of 1,200 cubic meters per second.
