Thailand investigates Israeli business and land ownership links
Tensions are rising in Thailand due to concerns regarding the conduct of Israeli tourists and suspected illegal business practices by Israeli nationals. Public dissatisfaction has centered on issues such as noise disturbances, public disputes, and a perceived lack of respect for Thai culture and laws.
A survey by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) indicates that 77.49% of respondents aware of these issues demand strict law enforcement. The survey also noted that over 76% of participants had heard media reports regarding inappropriate or illegal behavior by Israelis in the country.
Concurrently, Thai authorities are conducting widespread investigations into potential violations of foreign ownership laws. This includes probing networks of companies suspected of using Thai nominees to illegally hold land and property. Investigations have targeted over 40 firms and expanded to a broader scrutiny of 14,000 foreign-linked companies following irregularities discovered at a Jewish cemetery in Chachoengsao. These probes cover several regions, including Phuket, Koh Phangan, and Chon Buri.
