Thailand issues flood warnings for 51 provinces amid heavy rain

Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued warnings for 51 provinces to prepare for heavy rainfall, flash floods, and forest runoffs between August 29 and September 2. High-risk areas include northern provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Tak, as well as northeastern provinces like Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, and Sakon Nakhon, and eastern provinces including Chanthaburi and Trat.

Authorities are utilizing Cell Broadcast systems and local language alerts to ensure rapid communication. While Nan province has entered the recovery phase, officials remain on 24-hour alert in Chiang Rai. In Songkhla, government officials visited Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya to inspect a water situation monitoring center that serves as a secondary war room for flood and drought forecasting in the Hat Yai area.

This monitoring center provides real-time data to assist local communities and helps manage salinity levels in the Songkhla Lake, which affects approximately 300,000 rai of agricultural land.
