Thailand June political index rises slightly as drug problem dents government confidence

A Suan Dusit University poll surveyed 2,054 Thais between 29 June and 3 July about the June 2024 Political Index. The overall score rose to 3.69 from 3.66 in May. The opposition’s work received the highest rating (4.17) while the lowest rating (3.03) was for the government’s handling of drug abuse and influential figures.

Anutin Charnvirakul was identified as the most prominent government figure (35 % of respondents), while Rakchanok Srinaok led the opposition (30 %). The government programme “Thai Help Thai Plus” attracted the most favour (62.4 %) for easing living‑cost pressures, but respondents said drug‑related issues and weak transparency reduced overall confidence in the administration. Experts warned that short‑term welfare measures are insufficient and that structural reforms are needed to restore trust and stability.
