Thailand Justice Minister addresses DSI probes into People's Party MPs
Thailand's Minister of Justice, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruthapol Naowarat, has addressed the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) summons issued to Somchat Techthaworncharoen, a People's Party MP for Phuket. The investigation concerns allegations of acting as a nominee for foreign nationals in the ownership of land and real estate in Phuket.
Minister Ruthapol stated that the DSI has been gathering forensic, documentary, and accounting evidence for some time and has scheduled a clarification session with the MP for August 31. He denied claims of political harassment, emphasizing that the investigation follows government policy to address illegal activities regardless of political affiliation. He noted that the DSI can proceed with indictments independently without prior approval from the Ministry of Justice.
Additionally, the Minister provided an update on Phawut Pongwitthayaphanu, a People's Party list MP, regarding an ongoing investigation into a forex-related case. The DSI is currently compiling evidence and preparing the case file.
