Thailand launches free 10kg fruit check-in at 20 airports

The Thai Ministry of Commerce has launched a year-long initiative allowing passengers to check in up to 10kg of fresh fruit free of charge at 20 airports across the country. The program, which began on September 1, aims to expand distribution channels for farmers, promote the consumption of Thai seasonal produce, and stimulate domestic tourism.

The Department of Internal Trade has partnered with the Department of Airports and seven airlines: Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, Thai Vietjet Air, and EZY Airlines. Under the agreement, each passenger is entitled to one standard box of fruit weighing no more than 10kg.

To facilitate the program, the Department of Internal Trade will supply boxes to participating airports, while the Department of Airports will establish collection points and provide temporary sales spaces for farmers to sell seasonal fruits directly to travelers.
