Thailand launches TH-AI Passport for free AI access

Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has launched the TH-AI Passport, a government initiative providing Thai nationals aged 15 and older free access to the AiPASS platform. The program aims to provide five million users with one year of premium access to over 30 generative AI models from more than 14 providers. Registration opened on August 19, 2026, and has already surpassed 1 million participants as of August 21.

The platform is scheduled to officially go live on August 31, 2026. In addition to AI tools, the program includes educational courses designed to help students, professionals, and business owners develop AI-related skills.

The project has faced scrutiny from opposition members and political figures regarding its transparency, cost-effectiveness, and potential for corruption. Some officials have raised concerns about whether the procurement process favored specific private companies or if the registration numbers are being artificially inflated by automated accounts. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has defended the project, stating it is a necessary step to ensure citizens can access modern technology without the limitations of free, ad-supported versions.
