Thailand launches TH-AI Passport and OpenAI partnership to boost AI adoption
Thailand is launching major initiatives to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption and bridge the digital divide. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has introduced the TH-AI Passport and the AiPASS platform, which aims to provide citizens with access to over 30 professional AI models from 14 major developers. The program has already seen over 1.3 million advance registrations, with a long-term goal of reaching 5 million users to enhance workforce competitiveness.
Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob described AI as a critical new form of national infrastructure, comparable to electricity or the internet. The initiative seeks to lower the barrier to entry for high-level AI tools, which typically carry significant monthly subscription costs.
In a separate collaborative effort, OpenAI has partnered with Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) to launch an eight-week AI accelerator program. This partnership aims to help ten startups in the health, wellness, and education sectors transform AI prototypes into market-ready products. This move aligns with Thailand’s strategic goal to become a regional hub for AI innovation.
