Thailand launches ThaiHelpThai x Local Low Cost price‑cut campaign

Thailand's government, represented by Deputy Spokesperson Lallida Perseeviwatana, announced a joint effort with the Ministry of Commerce, major consumer‑goods manufacturers and local retail operators to run the “ThaiHelpThai x Local Low Cost” promotion from 1‑15 August 2023. The programme aims to lower household living costs by offering discounted prices on essential items.

The discount covers 17 categories of goods – eight food‑related items (rice, fish sauce, cooking oil, soy sauce and seasonings, sugar, instant noodles, canned foods and coffee) and nine non‑food items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dish‑washing liquid, toilet paper, plus sanitary pads and adult diapers). Well‑known brands such as Cha‑Tra rice, Mama noodles, Three‑Mothers canned fish, Nescafé, SunSil, Colgate, Omo, Downy, Lion‑F and Sofie participate. More than 135 local retailers, representing over 800 branch locations nationwide (examples include Jamfa Supermarket in Lamphun, Tanapiriya in Chiang Rai, etc.) display the “ThaiHelpThai x Local Low Cost” sign to guide shoppers.

The government encourages consumers to check the Ministry of Commerce’s list for participating stores in their province. The initiative is intended to pass savings directly to households while supporting small retailers and circulating money in the grassroots economy.
