Thailand manufacturing index rises amid global electronics demand

Thailand's Manufacturing Production Index (MPI) rose 4.4% year-on-year to 103.43 in August 2026, according to the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE). This growth was driven by global demand for electronic products, including communication equipment, electronic components, and circuit boards.

The OIE implemented a revision to the MPI calculation to better reflect structural changes in domestic industry. The updated methodology incorporates high-tech products and new factory data, such as laptops, optical transceivers, and processor power supplies. Following these adjustments, the OIE raised its 2026 MPI growth forecast to a range of 2.75% to 3.75%.

While the electronics and communication sectors saw significant gains, other industries faced declines, including plastics, rubber, computers, and steel. Meanwhile, Bangkok Bank reported a net profit of 29,981 million Baht for the first nine months of 2026. The bank noted that while electronics exports are benefiting from AI-related technology demand, the broader economy faces challenges from rising living costs, public debt, and recent flooding.
