Thailand Minister investigates university seminar involving People's Party
Yotsanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, has ordered an investigation into a seminar organized by the Faculty of Political Science at Prince of Songkla University (Pattani Campus). The event involved members of the People's Party and offered students three activity hours for participating.
Yotsanan stated that while freedom of thought cannot be restricted, the Ministry must verify whether the event and the awarding of activity hours complied with university regulations and legal frameworks. He noted that the Ministry's role is to ensure universities follow their specific Acts and established criteria. The Minister emphasized that if the process adheres to university rules, the activity is permissible, but he is awaiting a formal clarification from the institution.
