Thailand Ministry of Education launches ‘Safe School’ initiative
Thailand's Ministry of Education has launched a comprehensive ‘Safe School’ initiative to address modern challenges facing students. Following discussions with the National Human Rights Commission, Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong and ministry executives outlined several key pillars for reform.
To enhance physical safety, the ministry has implemented seven security measures, including screening for illegal items and the establishment of a ‘Rights, Liberty, and Safety in Educational Institutions Center.’ This center will utilize the LINE Traffy Fondue platform for real-time incident reporting and includes disciplinary measures for administrators who conceal incidents.
Addressing digital risks, the ministry plans to push for criminal code amendments to better protect children from online threats. This includes developing frameworks for AI usage, establishing appropriate screen time guidelines, and engaging with social media platforms to combat bullying.
Furthermore, the ministry has strictly prohibited the practice of cutting students' hair in a manner that violates their dignity and emphasized the importance of student participation in school regulation discussions. Under the ‘All for Education’ principle, the ministry also aims to expand educational access to all groups, including displaced children in temporary shelters.
