Thailand Ministry of Social Development launches welfare initiatives in Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Sawan
Nikorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, has led initiatives in Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Sawan to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and low-income earners.
In Ubon Ratchathani, the “Social Development for Happiness” activity focused on providing comprehensive welfare. This included subsidies for home environment modifications for the disabled and elderly, financial assistance for rehabilitation and hardship, and vocational promotion to help alleviate debt. The ministry also distributed essential supplies, wheelchairs, and medical equipment.
In Nakhon Sawan, the mission focused on the “Nakhon Sawan Happiness: Warm Homes, Full Communities” project for the 2027 fiscal year. This initiative aims to ensure widespread access to welfare and community-level support systems. Key components include the establishment of a central kitchen to provide food security and programs to promote local career development. The mission involved high-level executives from the Ministry and the National Housing Authority to visit homes and coordinate multi-sectoral assistance.
