Thailand NACC exposes illegal foreign nationality acquisition methods

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has identified four major methods used by foreign criminal networks to illegally acquire Thai nationality through the exploitation of the country’s identity registration system. These methods include hijacking unused identity records of deceased individuals or those unable to perform administrative procedures, often involving internal cooperation from government officials.

Other methods involve the misuse of the ‘Pink Card’ system intended for non-Thai residents and the use of fraudulent birth information. In one instance involving a ‘Chinese baby group,’ organizations allegedly conspired with medical institutions to issue false birth certificates. The NACC warned that these activities pose a threat to national security and emphasized the need for a centralized database to detect inconsistencies across Ministry of Interior, immigration, medical, and banking records.
