Thailand National Housing Authority launches flood relief for 480,000 residents
Nikorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, has expressed concern for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities, affected by recent flooding.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) is coordinating urgent relief efforts across 57 projects, impacting approximately 160,000 housing units and roughly 480,000 residents. NHA Governor Thaweepong Wichaidit stated that assistance is being prioritized based on severity. Currently, 18 projects are experiencing severe flooding, affecting about 232,200 people, while 39 projects face standing water or minor flooding, affecting 248,000 people.
Critical areas receiving immediate attention include the Rom Klao Housing Community, Khlong Chan Housing Community, and Bueng Kum Baan Ua-Athon. To manage the crisis, the NHA has established a coordination center, opened a temporary kitchen at Wat Bang Toei to provide meals, and is preparing survival kits containing essential supplies for distribution.
