Thailand news: Flooding in Nan and business raids in Pattaya

Several significant events occurred across Thailand during the week of August 17 to August 23, 2026. In northern Thailand, floodwaters in Nan province began to recede following intense monsoon rains and record rainfall.

In Pattaya City, authorities conducted coordinated searches at three locations to target suspected nominee networks. These networks allegedly used Thai nominees to hold land and operate businesses worth hundreds of millions of Baht on behalf of foreigners, in violation of the Foreign Business Act.

In Bangkok, a 29-year-old American man was arrested after allegedly shoplifting from a convenience store and attacking a Thai police officer with a box cutter during a pursuit. Additionally, seven teenagers surrendered to police in the Pattaya area after being accused of raiding a pool villa and assaulting a rival with a handgun and knives.
