Thailand Parliament debates 3.788 trillion baht 2027 budget

The Thai Parliament is currently debating the 3.788 trillion baht budget proposal for the 2027 fiscal year. During the second reading, discussions regarding the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives lasted nearly four hours, with many representatives from the Bhumjaithai Party requesting budget support for regional issues.

Following this, the debate shifted to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), which has a proposed budget of 13,625 million baht. Democrat Party representative Kandee Liowpairoj criticized the budget, noting that the committee only reduced the amount by 0.19%.

Kandee specifically highlighted concerns regarding the ‘Cloud First’ policy, stating that while individual agency cloud rentals decreased, the total expenditure including the Government Data Center and Cloud (GDCC) system has surged by over 50%. She warned that the current trend of renting services rather than building state assets could lead to massive recurring costs, potentially reaching 50,000 million baht in future projections if the technological infrastructure is not properly managed.
