Thailand partners with CP Group to bring GI products to China
Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property, in collaboration with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), is partnering with CP Investment Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of CP Group) to introduce Thai Geographical Indication (GI) products to the Chinese market.
During discussions in Beijing on September 23, 2026, officials explored market trends and consumer behavior to facilitate the entry of Thai GI goods into urban retail markets in Beijing. This initiative follows the ‘GI 3+3’ project, a bilateral agreement between Thailand and China to mutually register three GI products each. Thailand has already submitted applications for Thung Kula Ronghai Jasmine Rice, Phetchabun Sweet Tamarind, and Pak Phanang Tubtim Siam Pomelo, with registration expected by early 2027.
A delegation of six Thai GI entrepreneurs—representing products such as Khao Kiri Wong Mangosteen, Ratchaburi Aromatic Coconut, and Bang Krathum Dried Bananas—participated in business matching activities and met with CP Group executives to discuss long-term commercial opportunities in China.
