Thailand PM outlines strategic autonomy vision at Lowy Institute

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered a vision speech at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, Australia, regarding the evolving international order. Addressing the theme of advancing international order through regional and minilateral cooperation, the Prime Minister emphasized that Thailand seeks to maintain strategic autonomy rather than choosing sides in a polarized world.

To navigate global uncertainty, Charnvirakul proposed three key strategies: making regionalism effectively address modern challenges, maintaining strategic autonomy, and building resilience through economic integration, particularly in the growing green and digital industries. He noted that as Thailand and Australia approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year, both nations should expand their strategic partnership to benefit the broader region amidst shifting geopolitics, trade, and supply chain complexities.

Separately, opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut addressed domestic political tensions, criticizing the government's response to allegations regarding Senate selection irregularities and accusing the administration of attempting to deflect parliamentary scrutiny.
