Thailand postpones Social Security Board election due to flooding

The Social Security Office's election committee has officially postponed the nationwide election for the Social Security Board. Originally scheduled for September 27, 2026, the election will now take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 08:00 to 16:00.

The decision follows a special meeting to assess the impact of heavy rainfall and flooding across multiple regions. Officials noted that the weather conditions could hinder voters' ability to travel to polling stations and disrupt the duties of election officials, including ballot counting and result aggregation. The postponement aims to ensure equitable access for all insured persons and employers across the country.

The move comes after various labor networks and political representatives, including members of the People's Party, called for a delay. Advocates argued that holding the election during severe flooding would compromise safety and effectively disenfranchise victims in affected areas. Data from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation indicated that flooding had impacted 21 provinces, affecting tens of thousands of households.
