Thailand prepares ‘Thai Teaw Thai Plus’ domestic tourism stimulus

Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports is finalizing the ‘Thai Teaw Thai Plus’ project, a domestic tourism stimulus measure expected to be submitted to the Cabinet for approval in August. The initiative aims to support travel expenses to boost revenue for hotels, restaurants, and service providers, with a specific focus on secondary cities and small-scale operators rather than large luxury chains.

The project is expected to run for three months, potentially from October to December, coinciding with the start of the new fiscal year. Details regarding funding sources—whether through loans or the central budget—are currently under review by the Ministry of Finance. The Krungthai Bank ‘Pao Tang’ application is slated to serve as the primary platform for the program.

In a separate discussion regarding industry trends, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Chulalongkorn University hosted a seminar on sustainable tourism. Experts highlighted the importance of adapting to a ‘new world order’ characterized by shifting geopolitics, the integration of artificial intelligence in marketing, and the growing global demand for sustainable travel practices to attract high-quality tourists.
